Phumulani means “rest,” “take a rest,” or “be at peace,” and comes from the Zulu verb -phumula combined with the plural imperative -ni, meaning “Rest, all of you.” The name reflects the organization’s vision of creating a place of rest, safety, healing, and support for those carrying the weight of violence and trauma. Phumulani grew from founder Comfort Dondo’s own pain and lived experiences, and from her hope to offer others the rest, dignity, and support she once needed herself.
